Watch and Clock Servicing
We are very pleased to say that our own watchmaker Peter, who has been working with us since we first opened in 1982, is a member of The British Horological Institute. Our skilled watchmaker uses a blend of classic techniques with modern equipment to repair your timepiece to the highest standard.
The same care and attention goes into every timepiece he works on, whether its an old unbranded clock or a rolex, they all follow the same procedure.
-Firstly the movement inside is stripped down into the individual components.
-These are then cleaned and examined to assess any wear on them, any worn out parts are replaced.
-The components are then reassembled and lubricated.
-After this the movement is then rebuilt, regulated and tested.
-Finally the movement is then assembled back into the case, and tested over a period time to asses the timekeeping.
This is a question we get asked quite a lot.
Watches and clocks are designed to provide accurate timekeeping over a long period, however they do need to be maintained like any machinery. In the same way you have your car serviced to replace the aged oil and worn components, your timepiece needs similar care and attention.
Old oil may not be providing adequate lubrication causing extra wear on the components inside, both worn parts and old oil can affect the timekeeping of the piece, starting slowely at first either losing or gaining minutes a day, this can lead to a point where the watch stops.
Some people believe that their watch needs a service every year to 18 months, this is in fact not the case and most manufacturers recommend a service interval of between 3 and 5 years, depending on who you ask.
We would normally advise on 4 years as recommended to us by our watchmaker.
